About Me
Artist Statement
Painting soothes me when I find myself in rough waters. The paintings I compose consist of landscapes, nature, or emotional portraiture. The work is meant to be calming because I prefer to create things that will improve the viewer’s mood rather than reminding them of the troubles they might be facing. Escapism is important in this day and age because of the impact negative thoughts have on mental health. Painting peaceful and tranquil scenes allows both myself and the audience to get lost in the images like a fairytale. Through my portraiture, I have begun exploring how to convey emotion and studying the use of color to manipulate the mood of the piece. My models are often people who have influenced my life in a positive way, acting as my escape. Every color acts as a catalyst for a variety of emotions which are interpreted differently by each individual. The use of bright, warm colors in my work affect the mood of the piece, creating a warm, positive atmosphere. Capturing the emotional state of the subject and allowing my work to affect the audience is my ultimate goal.
My work is a reflection of my personal journey, shaped by my experiences, emotions, and the world around me. I work primarily with acrylic paint on stretched canvas, and through each piece, I aim to capture the beauty, complexity, and depth of emotions through portraits, impressionism, and escapism.
I’ve always believed that art is a way to communicate what words often can’t express. Over the years, I’ve developed my skills at the University of Minnesota Morris, allowing my style to evolve naturally. My work has been featured in the Morrison art gallery in Morris MN, various murals around the Glenwood/Starbuck MN area, and at Dreamstones in Alexandria MN where I work seasonally, but what truly drives me is the connection my art fosters with others.
I want my art to invite you into a space of reflection, whether it brings a sense of calm, nostalgia, or quiet contemplation. For me, art isn’t just about creating something beautiful; it’s about creating something that resonates deeply and creates a sense of peaceful and relaxing space where you can escape the world of stress and chaos.
Thank you for taking the time to learn a bit about me and my work. I’m excited to continue exploring, growing, and sharing my artistic vision with you!
